Fixed versus Growth mindset
Your mindset plays a huge role in your success. I would like to introduce you to the Fixed vs. Growth mindset model developed by Dr.Carol Dweck. This model defines how you think about your intelligence, skills, and abilities. Are they flexible and can they be consistently developed and improved on or are they stagnant and have a limit after which you can’t improve on them?
Let’s take a look at the Growth Mindset, here you will believe that your intelligence can be further developed and will lead to the desire to constantly learn more, and you will likely tend to do the following things:
Embrace challenges and see them as opportunities to grow.
Not let obstacles defeat you and persist in the face of setbacks.
Be willing to put in the effort it takes to get something done right.
Learn from criticism instead of taking it personally.
Celebrate and learn from the success of others.
In order to fully understand how these two mindsets, oppose each other, I will give you a rundown of the Fixed mindset as well. In this mindset, you will believe that your intelligence is static, and this will most likely lead to a desire to look smart without learning anything.
Avoid challenges.
Give up easily when faced with obstacles.
Not be willing to put effort into getting a job done.
Likely ignore any kind of negative feedback.
Feel threatened by the success of others.
Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed no hope at all. - Dale Carnegie
I would love to hear what your mindset is, and what inspires you to keep trying even when it seems like there is no hope at all.
